Here is a Chinese restaurant I have been to countless times. I remember when it used to be that humble restaurant in Jinnah where you’d go for a nice meal. Kim Mun now has franchises in the Centaurus and Safa Gold mall.
The chow mein they serve is absolutely the best in town. What makes it different is the mouth feel hand-cut egg noodles bring infused perfectly with the flavors of soy sauce and spring onions. Even though the chow mein is rather dry it never makes me feel the need of a gravy to accompany it (of course I’d surely have gravy with it if it was there on the table). Coming to the soups, the best ones to try are their special soup and Thai soup. The other flavors are just the same-old-available-everywhere kinds. The special soup is a beautiful combination of prawns, chicken, beef and black mushrooms in thick oyster sauce flavored stock. The celery, parsley and green onions are put with just enough restraint to bring the most out of the soup. The Thai soup is a light lemony stalk with a kick of green chili and paper thin chicken. The only complaint I have is that the soups are aggressively salted which isn't all that pleasant for our kidneys. The gravies are conventionally good with most having the same flavor. If one has almond, the other contains mushrooms and the third would be spiced up with whole red chilies. One that stands out is their lemon chicken as it remains light and the zucchini gives a crunchy texture to the palate. Kim Mun is a restaurant that packs a punch of flavor in their dishes. Although the ambiance has been amped up in their newer branches, a truly authentic Chinese experience is still missing. Make sure to check it out! 12-B, Jinnah Super Market, F-7, Islamabad Centaurus Mall, 4th floor Safa Gold Mall Happy eating!
